ISBN tools: a question for you
Does anybody know of a website that will provide a list of ISBNs for a single title or author? For example, if Author X has four books out, and I put in Author X's name, I'd get a list of all editions of all books with ISBNs.
Or if I put in one title, I'd get all the editions, each with its ISBN.
Because you know, this would be great. Really great. If it doesn't exist, some clever person should put it together, she said hopefully.

You'd have to talk to Ingram, or the other big book distributor (not publisher). I do believe they had that capability even back when I was ordering books from them, in '93 through '96. I would say, "are there any other books by this author?" and they could give me a list of all of them, and their database list had ISBN, book type, wholesale price, # of pages, all sorts of info that's important to somebody.
I don't know if the Books in Print CD-Roms allow cross-searching in that manner, but I'd be very surprised if they didn't have some capability like what you mean. After all, what's the point of telling me the names of the books if the listings don't include the ISBN by which I would order it? (In ordering books, FYI, the only criteria one uses is the ISBN; nothing else need be listed.)

sG-- I'm sure you're right. But I was hoping for an easier, cheaper approach. I've found one website that almost does what I want, I'll post about it soon.

isbn.nu is the closest thing I can think of...
