an update to the booklist

filed under lists

I should have thought to do this with the original post, but here's a list of authors whose new novels I buy automatically, without reading reviews and stopping to check my bank account.

I may have missed a few.

Also, because somebody is on this list doesn't mean I'd recommend every novel they've ever written -- although that is the case for a couple of them.

A.S. Byatt
Alice Munro
Annie Proulx
Dennis Lehane
Greg Rucka
Jenny Crusie
John Sandford
Judith Ivory
Laura Kinsale
Lee Child
Loretta Chase*
Mary Doria Russell
Michael Ondaatje
Richard Russo
Stephen Hunter
Susan Wiggs

*A number of Loretta Chase's novels should have been on the original list.

I've been meaning to ask what you thought of Laura Kinsales' most recent novel "Shadowheart". On your recommendation I read "For My Lady's Heart" and then read "Shadowheart" afterwards. Did you read it? What did you think? I quite enjoyed reading Allegretto's story but I wanted to see more of Ruck and Melanthe.

Carolyn -- Shadowheart. Let me think. Okay, here it is: Kinsale is a wonderful writer, and this novel shines like the rest of her work. I never could work up much sympathy for these main characters, though, so it doesn't make my top picks.
