I still love Steve Almond
Way back in November of 2003 I made a public declaration of love for Steve Almond. Okay, so he has a girlfriend and I'm happily married and if he's thirty or younger, he could be my kid, but I still like the guy, a lot.
Then something odd happened. You know how you may have a cousin or good friend from growing up that you somehow lose track of? I lost track of Steve's website for a while, but I don't think that will happen again. Not after The blogger who loathed me, an essay he wrote for Salon. I tried to make some of the same points when I decided it wasn't worth my time to read The Elegant Variation, but he does a much better job.

In Kit Kat news: Haven't seen the dark bars for a while, and then just this week I scored a halloween bag of miniature KK's which contained a mixture of regular, white chocolate, and DARK CHOCOLATE mini bars. This was at a Target store in Arkansas, so, best of luck in your jurisdiction. Buy several, pawn off the white chocolate ones on the trick or treaters.
and, OMG, I never thought of looking for FOOD on ebay... but people seem to be smuggling them in from Canada:

you think that's bad. I get my Mum to send food parcels to NZ from the UK with Kit Kats in. Even though you can buy Kit Kats here, they just don't taste the same. (I have been told the choc is made to a different recipe). And the Kit Kats from the UK still don't taste as good as when Rowntree Mackintosh made them. How I miss Rowntree's choc....

P.S. have you guys got the peanut butter kit kats yet? Or the orange ones?

Alison -- no peanut butter or orange. In Germany they've got noisette -- hazelnut cream. Almost worth a trip overseas.

I got the "triple chocolates" at Walgreens this week! (Saw a coffee one also, but hesitated. Are those any good?)

charlotte -- Coffee was nice, but not as good as the mint. Or the dark chocolate. Or the triple chocolate.

Kit Kats are obviously a worldwide favourite.
Only yesterday I saw in a local food magazine's "interesting finds" feature that there are Green Tea Kit Kats for sale in Japan. And from the illustration on the wrapper which was pictured, the choc coating is a luscious shade of green. (I jest not).
