to-do list
Lots of things to get done this year: books to write, mostly, but also other projects to get off the ground. I'd like to be one of those gloriously young looking fifty year olds. Alas, I don't think that's in the cards, so I'll settle for being a healthy fifty year old, matronly in appearance but with a reasonable cholesterol count. With a happy girlchild and a contented husband, with excellent friends and puppyboys. And stories to tell, and people who want to read them.
The really important things are in place, and I count myself fortunate.

Your age is the one in your heart, not the one listed on your driver's license. Embrace the years ahead with enthusiasm and you will stay young forever.
Wishing you many happy returns of this day.

Happy Birthday!!!! Here's to many more.
(Sorry, almost forgot about the exclamation point thingy.)
On another note, have you read "Eats, Shoots & Leaves" By Lynn Truss? (http://eatsshootsandleaves.com) I am not a "stickler" for grammar, but I found it a great read nonetheless - and I laughed about grammar.

You are my idol!
I'm so glad you have lots of stories to tell because I adore your stories and particularly how you tell them.
And you look great for 42!!!

Happy Birthday. (almost inserted a smiley but I remembered whom I was greeting.) 50 is youthful; no sane person thinks 50 is old. So 49 -- sheesh, you're practically a CHILD, right?

Happy Birthday! May the year ahead be filled with love, laughter, fun, and adventure.
One of my favourite thoughts:
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in
sideways, chocolate in one hand, martini in the other, body thoroughly used up and totally worn out, screaming "WOO HOO! What a ride!"

Happy Birthday - someone at work who claims not to celebrate birthdays or holiday events always writes "Way to Go!" in the group birthday card (or retirement, new baby, wedding, etc., card). At first we laughed at the apparent thoughtlessness, but as we all age, the sentiment is surprisingly appropriate: Way to go!
