NEW CONTEST: signed first edition of Fire Along the Sky
I'm moving the contest entry up front as there are only three days until the drawing on August 15, at which point I should have already received a few copies; if I haven't, I'll still hold the drawing and pick the winner, and the book will go into the mail as soon as I receive it.
If you've tried and failed to enter in the last week, it should work now.
The rules are simple: by entering a comment here, you have entered this contest and you acknowledge and agree to the following:
- the author (me) is not responsible for technical difficulties arising from the software or hardware running this contest, and reserves the right to cancel without awarding the signed first edition if such difficulties make continuing impossible.
- the author (me) reserves the right to delete entries that (a) are duplicates [though if you make a mistake by clicking twice, send an email and it will be fixed]; (b) contain objectionable material such as spam, advertising or anything else that the author (me) deems contrary to the spirit of the whole undertaking.
- The winning entry will be drawn out of a hat, by the author (me), the one and only judge, and notified by email. If the winning party does not respond to email notification within one week, a second drawing will be held.
- All of the author's (mine) decisions regarding this contest are final.
In your comment/contest entry you need to do the following:
1. State your first name and the first letter of your last name.
2. Provide a valid email address.
3. Reproduce this statement (you can copy and paste): I've read the rules for this contest and I agree to them.
Here's a sample entry.
Here's a sample entry (click to get a bigger version you can actually read. I hope.)
5. You can add a comment if you like (for example, let me know what you would like me to discuss here on the blog, or what you like about the books). However, please be aware that while I really, really like comments, a particularly complimentary comment won't help your chances at all one way or the other and conversely, no comment at all won't hurt you, either.
One last thing: if you have difficulties with the contest or questions about it, please get those to me by email. The only comment you should post right here is your contest entry. Good luck to all.

I almost ordered your new book for a friend's birthday, but thought that _I_ needed to read it first.
Read the excerpt on the website you listed a few days ago, what a teaser!
Thanks for allowing a lucky person have a chance at an autographed book. I'm sure we'll all be envious of the winner.

So glad to have stumbled on your blog, very inspiring. Now I have url envy. *Great* another thing to put on my to-do list! How many lives do we get anyway? That's why I love to read - many lives to live in a conveniently portable storage case.

Though I just read Into The Wilderness this past week, I'm eagerly looking forward to getting my hands on and finishing the next two books so I'll be up-to-date when Fire Along the Sky is released in August! Gotta find out what happens to Nathaniel, Elizabeth, and of course, Richard and Kitty! Thanks for giving us "their lives" to enjoy (and yes, occasionally, grumble) over!

Comment: Into the Wilderness is still my favourite of all 3 books so far. I was hooked on the first page and as soon as I got to the part where Nathaniel says "for I am sick of love", I knew I wouldn't be able to put the book down.
I was happy to see a fan from New Zealand won the ARC, so here's hoping I can make it a double from down under!

I live in a town not unlike Paradise in a lot of ways, from the topography to the intolerance, even some of your characters have 'twins' in my town. Unfortunately there's no Nathaniel or for that matter Liam amongst the male population!
I'm killing two birds with one stone here in that I'm entering a competition to win a book I'm desperate for, AND I get to congratulate you on your wonderful writing.

I hope to see the new book come to New Zealand. Chances are good. There's only 4 million people all up in NZ and the per capita response from us has been pretty impressive.

Now i know what im about to say isnt really fair to everyone else. I was lucky enough to get an advanced reading copy of FIRE ALONG THE SKY and i have to say : Sara, you have yourself another fan. As soon as i finished FATS (*giggle* at the acronym) i went out to buy the first in the series. I know im gonna get through your books rather quickly and then i'll have to suffer along with everyone else til your next book comes out. At first i was apprehensive about the book when i saw that you included a list of all the characters in the book. Im glad that it was alot easier to follow than i thought.
Keep the great books coming.

Your 3 Donati novels have been great. I'm looking for the Lippi novels now. You info about using the Cooper Leatherstocking Tales led me to read all 5 of them. I found the parallels in Into the Wilderness and his The Pioneers wonderful. I'm hoping you've used some of his The Prairie as part of Fire Along the Sky. I think he'd be honored with such a tribute!

Love the characters, scenarios and countryside descriptions. Feel as though I'm really there. Books originally recommended on radio by rep. from local bookshop on regular Reader's segment. I even persuaded my usually 'non-reader' friend to try them and now she is also hooked. We cannot wait for the next one and since we will have to wait much longer than 31st August for local distribution, would adore an early copy. Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

"I've read the rules for this contest and I agree to them. "
Up until a few years ago, I didn't think I'd find engaging works of historical fiction by authors other than Wilbur Smith and James Michener. That's before I stumbled across the Outlander series, and some commentary online that led me to pick up Into the Wilderness. Needless to say, my well-thumbed copies of all three books in the series are patiently (tap, tap, tap) waiting for their fourth sibling to join them on my bookshelf. I'd love a hardcover for my collection, but truth be told I get the most use out of my softcovers because the books I love, I usually read so many times that they just fall apart. Thanks for keeping such great escapes coming...it's nice to "visit" more more peaceful and rugged parts of NY state for a change!

Well, after chomping at the bit waiting for the next Gabaldon book to appear in the bookstores, I started frantically perusing the local libraries to appease my historical/adventuresome/romantic/mystical appetite. Don't ask me what particularily led me to your book, other than it seemed to jump off the shelf at me. Curious at the title,( I had never heard of you before, no offense) I saw Ms. Gabaldon's praise and without so much as a second thought, promptly checked out " Into The Wilderness ". That was a week ago and I was not disappointed ! What an absolutely, marvelous book. I fell under it's spell immediately. Today I bought your second book and am trying to restrain myself from reading it till the weekend,so I can savour every word of it while we are camping. The setting in upstate N.Y. is very close to where I grew up and you bring back the sounds and the scents of the picturesque land that I have never had a chance to revisit, except in memory, for the last 26 years. On another note, you did me a real favor. My brother had his first son at the end of June. You guessed it, he named him Nathaniel. Myself and the rest of the family were busy choking on his, actually his wife's choice of a name. Didn't go over big. I kept thinking that that name was meant for someone from the Revolutionary War. Now thanks to you, I have a strong affinity for his name. I hope my nephew will grow up to be a man of honor like your Nathaniel, and enjoy a life filled with excitement and adventure. Perhaps when he gets older, I will share this little secret with him! I've read the rules to this contest and agree to them. WRITE ON! Contact info e-mailed to Sara.

Just finished Lake in the Clouds.Heard about you from best friend, who I told about Gabaldon.Thought I would get on the computer and see what I could find out about you, and here this is.
Started a new habit of writing in a journal of what inspired, and or influenced me as a reader.I just loved the line on p. 538 Cherries such a dark and deep color that all the other colors of the world were hidden in its depths. Not black or red, but both and neither.A color as deep and complex as the colr of his eyes, looking at her with frank, and unapologetic wanting. It spoke to me of the many colors of peoples skin. The unique undescribable color of eyes, of someone you love. You captured it like poetry. Pure artistry.Thank you for sharing it.

I've enjoyed browsing your blog, but it was your willingness to wade into the fic canonization thread at Frell Me Dead that motivated me to enter this contest.
