friend crush update

If you'll remember, we seemed to come to the conclusion that men didn't get friend crushes. Well, Scalzi is the first documented example thereof, in this post about Noreascon and the panels he's scheduled on there. Read down, it's about three quarters of the way. This isn't quite a male-female friend crush reference, but I found that Pat Barker's "Regeneration" trilogy offered some profound insights into masculine friendship. In particular, that grey area between friendship-love and romantic but asexual love between men is beautifully handled and raises some very interesting issues to ponder over.

Meredith, I agree with you, that is a lovely trilogy. I think I'll have to re-read it with the friendship theme in mind.
