Fire Along the Sky : Q&A;

The ARC giveaway closes June 20 (two days from today); 161 people have entered thus far. Information about how to get hold of an Advance Reading Copy of Fire Along the Sky is here, and the actual contest is to be found in the right hand column under PICK A DOOR, ANY DOOR. Hint: it's the middle door. Please note if you're getting an error message about empty fields, you actually have to put something in the 'comments' section. Also, if you've tried repeatedly and without success, email me the answers to all the questions and I'll do the paperwork for you. So to speak.

Had a question today about the timing of the new book, if it picks up where Lake in the Clouds left off. This is a question I've heard before, but I'll answer it now: no, Fire along the Sky doesn't pick up where LitC left off. In fact, there's a ten year jump.

I know this will make some people anxious, but I'm hoping they'll be okay with it once they start reading. It was really the only way the characters agreed to telling the story. Really.

If you have other questions about the new novel, I may answer them, at this point. Emphasis on the may.

Thank you for the ARC contest. I can't think of another author who has done something like this before. What a great honor to be chosen. I have already pre-ordered (and paid for)my copy from Barnes & Noble so that I can get a first edition copy. I can't wait. Thanks again, Deb

Deb -- kind of you to pre-order, and thoughtful. As Bantam is on the fence about whether or not they want a sixth novel in the series, sales on Fire Along the Sky are being closely watched. Good luck on the contest (to everybody).

Tell us about the "hat" - the entries will be drawn out of a hat. Surely it is a very special hat. Could it be a bonnet from one of your characters?

Which part of the sales of a new book are watched closely? Just pre-order and first week on the bookshelves or total sales up to a specific length of time? Is it better for the sales figures for your most loyal fans to pre-order the book or buy it in the first week? TIA:)

hat: actually I think it will be a hatbox. Flowered, mauve and purple and green.

sales: I really don't know about the fine points. Just that they will want to see total sales of a certain amount. But I do appreciate the gesture of support, any way you care to make it.

Sara,

How will we know who is the lucky winner?
